'SUMMER OF COLOUR'

Ormus Gallery, Aberdour - Summer 2024

I was thrilled to be able to make and exhibit some new zero-waste textile pieces as part of Ormus Gallery's 'Summer Of Colour' exhibition.

'Chevron Quilt' is an 'improv' quilt pieced from fabric scraps and quilted by hand. The central chevron pieces were created first from tiny scraps of different colourful fabrics, and then arranged into this optical illusion effect, created by the use of pink and white sashing. Only reclaimed fabrics were used for this project, and any scraps were then used to make the 'Allotment' cushions, making this a zero-waste textile piece.

The front panels of my 'Allotment' cushions were created using all of the tiny offcuts from the 'Chevron' quilt patchwork process. Trapping and quilting the scraps under a layer of organza brings order to chaos. These colourful, abstract fabric paintings are framed by green pleats, evoking springtime allotments, wildflowers and veggie patch abundance. The cushions are backed in raspberry linen and finished with reclaimed vintage buttons.

Please get in touch if you'd like information on purchasing any pieces from this exhibition or if you would like to commission something similar!
